Root River (Lower) Paddle

We will launch in the Racine Harbor at the public launch and do a short paddle through Lake Michigan water and the harbor before hitting the Lower Root. Numerous breakwater walls are in place to protect us from the open waters of Lake Michigan.  It's a lot of fun navigating through the harbor and enjoying  the  boats and people. We will continue under the draw bridges up stream and see a cool old swing bridge that's still in use today (though it doesn't swing anymore). 

The river remains wide and hopefully deep for quite a distance. Depending on water levels, we can usually get up to Island Park in Racine before it gets too shallow. Most of time it's hard to believe that you are in the middle of an urban setting.
