Marion Pond is a secluded, high-elevation trout pond in the Hoffman Notch Wilderness near Schroon Lake. Although not the remotest destination you will find, it is a great destination for a weekend backpacking trip.
Join me as I revisit this wild place. We will start at Loch Muller and follow the well-used state trail to Bailey Pond. At that point the trail markers end, and eventually our route will fade into a lightly-traveled fisherman's herd path. The way will be steep as we climb from Bailey to Marion! If the weather is hot this will be a strenuous climb, but fortunately the rock ledge at the destination campsite offers a good place to rinse off. There is room for several tents and plenty of firewood.
Can you tolerate a few mosquitoes? Do you need some quality time spent next to a campfire? This is the height of the summer, and there is no guarantee we will have the woods to ourselves. But we should have a fine time in the woods regardless!
