THIS EVENT HAS NOT BEEN ANNOUNCED BY THE SPONSOR YET
This is a placeholder assuming that the event will happen on the first Saturday of August as it has for the last 13 years. Just getting it on the calendar as a placeholder.
We will launch in the Racine Harbor at the public launch and do a short paddle through Lake Michigan water and the harbor before hitting the Lower Root. Numerous breakwater walls are in place to protect us from the open waters of Lake Michigan. It's a lot of fun navigating through the harbor and enjoying the boats and people. We will kayak to the Harbor Lite Yacht Club to watch the 13th annual Cardboard Boat Race. More information about the race here: http://www.racinecardboardboatrace.com/ The racing is scheduled to begin at 2:00pm. We did this last year and it was a lot of fun to watch from the water without having to squeeze in on the bridge full of people.
The yacht club is open to the public this day, so we can decide if we want to stop for a drink/bite to eat, or just continue paddling up the river. We can play it by ear based on participation and how interesting the race is.
